The Top 2018 Kitchen Cabinet and Countertop Trends to Watch

It’s hard to believe that 2018 is already upon us, but designers have been busily researching and preparing predictions for what will be hot in kitchen design for the New Year. Obviously, two of the biggest considerations when designing a new kitchen are cabinetry and countertops. Here’s what designers are saying about what will be trending for those two key elements in 2018 …

Cabinet Trends for 2018 and Beyond

According to the design experts at Interiozine, 2018 will see a surge in deep, rich color for cabinetry — think deep smokey blues, rich browns with tinges of burgundy, coal-grays and similar densely saturated colors. Another hot trend involves pairing modern (i.e., “sleek”) overall cabinet designs with soft, natural, almost milky colors.

Two-tone cabinets will also be big in the kitchens of 2018. For example, you might pair a colored island with more traditional wood cabinets, or even vary the colors between upper and lower cabinets.

2018’s Countertops Run the Gamut

When it comes to countertops, granite will still play a starring role, but it won’t have quite the star power that it’s enjoyed in recent years. Instead, people are opting for quartz, which is durable and offers a wide variety of tones and colors to please any taste. Marble is also emerging as a trendy countertop choice for 2018, since it evokes elegance while reacting well to extremes in temperature, is available in a variety of tones, and stands up well to food prep, although you do have to take care with foods that can stain (e.g. blueberries or beets). Also popular for 2018 will be reclaimed wood (for its sustainability and natural appearance), and — somewhat surprisingly — metals which have been treated to resist rust.

Color, in general, will play a big role in 2018 kitchens, with natural hues running the gamut between the blue-gray of an autumn sky to the deep greens of a pine forest.
