Natural, Distressed Wood and Wood Look: a Hot Trend in Flooring

Some of the biggest wood flooring trends this year are natural and distressed wood, wood look tiles or laminates. Thanks to the latest technology, manufactures now reproduce authentic looking patterns in a variety of colors and textures. Wood flooring is always a classic choice. But, durable tiles or laminate flooring don’t stain or scratch like natural wood, making them ideal for homes with busy families. Wood look tiles are great for humid climates that make natural wood warp and deteriorate.

According to Floor Trends Magazine, wood look and distressed floor coverings are more widely available due to recent technological innovations. Digital inkjet technology makes it possible to reproduce natural variations in wood, particularly color, texture and pattern. The colors are more varied and subtle. Greys and whitewashed wood now join the still popular brown, espresso and cherry options. This variety makes wood look flooring adaptable to more decors.

Hardwood is still popular because it looks good with most decors. Wood flooring functions as a neutral to tie the decor of the room together. The warm, natural colors make any room more inviting. The newest flooring colors are not altered to look artificial, but close to those in nature. Another trend is wide width planks with unique grain patterns, as this looks and feels more luxurious.

Salvaged wood from old outdoor structures such as barns is another rising trend. Though, the homeowner does not have to go to a salvage yard to get it. The new digital inkjet technology makes reproducing this look on laminate flooring more affordable for the average homeowner. It is easy to make manufactured flooring look natural, worn or distressed.
