1. Floors
When picking out a floor, it is important to understand how various colors and patterns can affect the perceived size of your kitchen. If you have a small kitchen, you don?t want to pick a bright colored floor. Even a simple white floor can make the space feel more enclosed than it really is, even in an open floor plan. While patterns are more modern, they can easily add some depth to the area and make it seem more open. Another viable option to add depth is to go with a dark stone floor to accentuate the rest of the room.
2. Countertops
It can be tempting to match your countertops to your floor. This can actually lead to your kitchen feeling smaller than it really is. Instead, try to pick a countertop that contrasts with the floor. A marble countertop with dark tile or stone flooring can make your kitchen seem larger. The light countertop will draw your eye away from the floor and give the whole area a better style while not being overbearing. You should always try to contrast the colors in your kitchen so that the eyes are drawn upwards.
?3. Cabinets
When picking out cabinets or getting them custom made, it can seem like a good idea to go the traditional route and just get the basic ones for both the floor and overhead. If you are working with a small kitchen, this isn?t always the best idea. The blocky, closed off shapes can make your kitchen appear even smaller than it is, whereas having open cabinets above would not only give the room some added flair but will also make the kitchen seem larger as well. And the color of the cabinets should be a color closer to the floor to help draw the eye up towards the brighter countertops.
With a solid color scheme in place that provides plenty of contrast, your kitchen will be feeling larger than life in no time.
